The old way, and the simpler way
For years the advice for anyone searching "english movies geneva" was the same: check each cinema's own site, one by one, and hope the title you wanted was playing in its original language. Programmes change every week, so that chore never really ended.
English Cinema Geneva does that legwork for you. Instead of a scattered search across many websites, you get the English-language sessions from Geneva's cinemas gathered in one place. We do not claim to list every screening in the city, but the ones playing in English are collected so you can scan them at a glance.
What VO, VOST and E/f/d mean
Geneva listings use French abbreviations to tell you which language a film is shown in. These are the ones worth knowing:
- VO (version originale): the film plays in its original language, not dubbed. It means English audio only when English is the film’s original language.
- VOST (version originale sous-titrée): the original language with subtitles added, usually in French.
- E/f/d: an English soundtrack with French (f) and German (d) subtitles.
VO and VOST describe original audio, which can be in any language; the title’s language alone is not proof of English audio. VF (version française) means a French-language version. English Cinema Geneva only includes screenings with English audio, not films that merely have English subtitles. When booking on a cinema’s own broader programme, check the audio and subtitle details for your session.

Stop checking cinema websites
Programmes change every week, so a title in its original version today may be gone next week. Rather than tracking each cinema yourself, let the daily listings do the watching. You can also browse all the cinemas we cover, or get the week's English-language screenings by email through our weekly newsletter.
